Welcome to Brook Hill Pharmacy

Brook Hill Pharmacy is in Little Waltham, a village situated North of Chelmsford. This is the only pharmacy within the village; therefore, our services are at the heart of this community.

The pharmacy has a private consultation room that is used by the pharmacist when privacy is required by our patients.

  • From 1 April 2024, the charges are:
    Prescription (per item): £9.90
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC) - £114.50 (patients can spread the cost and pay in 10 monthly instalments)
  • 3-month PPC: £32.05

Sinusitis

Adults & children over 12yrs old.

Sinusitis is the painful swelling of the sinus cavities, commonly triggered by an infection. Although a common ailment, it typically resolves within a month. Adults & children over 5yrs old.

Sore throats are a frequent occurrence, but usually not a cause for concern. With time, they typically resolve on their own, lasting no longer than a week. So, there's no need to fret when the discomfort hits. Our pharmacy first service can help you to speedily recover.

Children aged 1 to 17yrs old.

If your child has pain in the ear, they may have an infection (Otitis Media). Bring them into our pharmacy to see our Pharmacist or book an appointment. This service is for children aged one year to seventeen years.

Adults & Children aged 1 and over.

Patients aged one year and over who have an infected insect bite can receive support from the Pharmacist and team. If you have been bitten and the bite area is red, itchy, tender or swollen, visit our pharmacy today.

Adults & children aged 1 and over.

Impetigo is a skin infection that's very contagious but not usually serious. It often gets better in 7 to 10 days if you get treatment. Anyone can get it, but it's very common in young children. Why not use our pharmacy first service within our pharmacy to quickly help with Impetigo.

Urinary Tract Infections

Females 16-64yrs.

Urinary tract infections (UT|s) are usually caused by bacteria from poo entering the urinary tract. The bacteria enter through the tube that carries pee out of the body (urethra). Women have a shorter urethra than men. This means bacteria are more likely to reach the bladder or kidneys and cause an intection.

Adults 18 & over.

Shingles is a viral infection that manifests as a painful rash, affecting people of all ages but more commonly seen in the elderly. It is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox and can leave lasting nerve pain. Early treatment is key to managing this uncomfortable condition.

Blood Pressure Check

High blood pressure is the single biggest risk factor for. Cardiovascular disease (heart attack & stroke). An estimated 5.5 million people have undiagnosed hypertension across the country.

Aims of Service:

Identify people aged 40 years or older with high blood pressure, who have previously not had a confirmed diagnosis of hypertension, and to refer them to general practice to confirm diagnosis and for appropriate management (this can include people under 40 years, at the discretion of a pharmacist)

 

What to expect:

  • At the end of a patient consultation, where readings indicate:
  • normal blood pressure - the pharmacist will promote healthy behaviours
  • high blood pressure - the pharmacist will offer Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) from the pharmacy and will also promote healthy behaviours
  • very high blood pressure - the pharmacist will urgently refer the patient to see their GP within 24 hours
  • low blood pressure - the pharmacist will provide appropriate advice

Contraception Services

If you have a question about your contraception, need a repeat prescription of your pills or want to start on the pill for the first time we offer the new Pharmacy Contraception service. (PCS)

In the past, you would have had to make an appointment with your doctor or visit a specialist sexual health clinic. Now you can visit your pharmacy and use the new PCS service.

Who is the service for?

Any female seeking a repeat supply of their ongoing contraception or wishing to commence contraception.
Combined Oral Contraceptive (COC) - from menarche up to and including 49 years of age.

Progestogen Only Pill (POP) – from menarche up to and including 54 years of age.

Please enquire at the counter for an appointment.

The service is completely confidential so you can be sure that your information will be stored safely and securely.

Flu vaccinations

If you would like to protect yourself with a Private Flu Jab, you can have this at Brook Hill Pharmacy for £18.50

If you are entitled to a flu vaccine at the Little Waltham and Great Notley Surgery but are unable to attend one of the clinics, you can go to one of the clinics at the pharmacy. 

 

General information

Dispensing Prescriptions

We dispense NHS prescriptions (paper & electronic) and will give support and advice on how to get the most benefit from your medicines. We keep a comprehensive stock of medicines and use an efficient wholesaler service which enables us to dispense all prescriptions promptly. We can also dispense NHS repeat dispensing prescriptions please enquire at the counter for more information re this service.

Discharge Medicines Service

If you have recently been in hospital some of your medications maybe stopped or changed, or new medicines prescribed. With your consent, we maybe informed of these changes and  can provide advice and support to you with the medicines you may be taking after your hospital visit.

Unwanted Medicines

Please return all unwanted medicines to the pharmacy, where we will dispose of them safely. 

Health & Self care Advice

Our Pharmacists and trained assistants are able to provide advice on all medicines and minor ailments, in private if required. In conjunction with our blood pressure monitoring scheme, we can also give advice on healthy living.

Patient Records

We keep records of all your prescriptions dispensed by us, as well as records of other services we provide to you.

Our pharmacy professional also consult records to support your care, such as NHS summary care records or local shared care records.

This is important to help us check potential problems such as interactions between medicines and help us deal with any queries you may have.

We comply with the Data protection Act and NHS code of confidentiality. If you wish to discuss the records we keep please ask a member of staff.

Other Services

If you are Housebound and do not have anyone to collect your medicines we do provide a home delivery service.

We keep a wide range of over the counter medicines and related products which you can purchase.

If you need one of your regular medicines in an emergency, when you are unable to contact your doctor, we may be able to help.

Access for people with disabilities

The pharmacy has an easy access ramp that can be used by patients who are unable to access the steps. There is also a disabled toilet on the premises. The pharmacy has access to an audio frequency induction loop System (AFILS) should you require.

We have a private consultation room if you need a consultation or specifically wish to discuss something in private.
